DESCRIPTION:

Upgrade your 2016-2020 Chevrolet Camaro 2.0L Turbo 6-speed manual with the Clutch Masters 04302-HDC6-X FX400-C6 6-Puck Clutch Kit. Designed as an extreme-duty street and road/drag racing clutch system, the FX400 combines Clutch Masters' Power Plus I Hi-Leverage Heavy-Duty Pressure Plate with a custom sprung 6-puck ceramic disc to deliver a manufacturer-rated 170% increase in holding capacity. The FX400 represents a significant step up in aggressiveness from the FX300 and FX350 systems. Clutch Masters engineered it for high-torque performance applications that require considerably more clutch capacity than a conventional street clutch can provide. Its combination of increased clamping force, ceramic friction material, and a 6-puck configuration makes it particularly well suited for substantially modified turbocharged Camaro builds, as well as road racing and drag racing applications. At the heart of the 04302-HDC6-X is Clutch Masters' Power Plus I Hi-Leverage Heavy-Duty Pressure Plate. This performance pressure plate works with the ceramic friction disc to increase torque capacity while forming the foundation of the FX400's 170% increase in holding capability. This particular FX400 configuration uses a 6-puck ceramic paddle disc. Clutch Masters offers the FX400 in both 6-puck and segmented 8-puck configurations, with the 6-puck version being the more aggressive of the two. The concentrated ceramic friction surfaces provide strong engagement, excellent holding capability, and rapid heat dissipation for demanding high-performance applications. Unlike the rigid disc used in the race-only FX500, the FX400 uses a sprung hub design when applicable. The sprung hub provides moderate drivetrain dampening in high-torque applications, helping make the FX400 considerably more street-friendly than a comparable solid or rigid-hub clutch while still providing the aggressive engagement required for serious performance use. The distinction between a sprung hub and a cushioned friction surface is especially important with the FX400-C6. Although the disc uses a sprung hub, Clutch Masters specifies that the 6-puck version has no Marcel cushion between the friction surfaces. As a result, engagement is very quick and clutch chatter may occur, particularly when starting in first gear or reverse. Clutch Masters uses premium ceramic friction material to help minimize these characteristics, but customers should expect the FX400-C6 to behave more aggressively than a conventional street clutch. Clutch Masters designed the ceramic disc for long life under demanding performance conditions, outstanding holding capacity, and rapid heat dissipation. However, the manufacturer also makes an important distinction regarding ceramic clutch life: ceramic friction material is selected primarily to increase holding capacity and durability under high-load conditions rather than simply extending clutch service life. Using an aggressive ceramic clutch in an easy street-driven application can actually reduce clutch life due to the harsh engagement characteristics and increased tendency for the driver to slip the clutch. This makes proper application selection particularly important. Clutch Masters specifically states that ceramic discs are not recommended for stock or near-stock vehicles. The FX400-C6 is best suited to a Camaro that has enough additional torque and performance capability to require its increased holding capacity rather than a lightly modified car where a more street-oriented FX100, FX250, FX300, or FX350 may provide better overall drivability. For the 2016-2020 Camaro 2.0L Turbo owner building a serious street, road-race, or drag-race combination, the Clutch Masters 04302-HDC6-X FX400-C6 provides a substantial increase in clutch capability with its 170% increased holding capacity, Power Plus I pressure plate, premium ceramic 6-puck friction material, and sprung-hub construction.

Important Notes

  • Clutch Masters categorizes the FX400 as a RACE/STREET clutch system.
  • The 6-puck configuration is the more aggressive of Clutch Masters' 6-puck and 8-puck FX400 options.
  • Do not confuse the sprung hub with a Marcel cushion. Clutch Masters specifically states that the FX400 6-puck has no Marcel cushion.
  • Because the 6-puck disc has no Marcel cushion, engagement is very quick and more aggressive than a conventional street clutch.
  • Some additional clutch noise, vibration, and harshness should be considered normal characteristics of this performance-oriented configuration.
  • The FX400 8-puck is the less aggressive FX400 alternative and uses a Marcel cushion to help minimize chatter.
  • Clutch Masters specifically describes the 8-puck version as designed for street-driven vehicles, whereas the 6-puck is the more aggressive configuration.
  • The ceramic friction material is designed to provide high holding capacity and rapid heat dissipation.
  • Using an aggressive ceramic clutch for easy street driving may actually reduce clutch life because the harsh engagement characteristics can encourage additional clutch slipping.
  • Clutch Masters specifically states that ceramic discs are never recommended for stock or near-stock vehicle applications.
  • Do not assume compatibility with the factory dual-mass flywheel or another manufacturer's aftermarket flywheel.
  • The slave cylinder is not included with this clutch kit.
  • Proper clutch break-in and installation procedures should be followed according to the current Clutch Masters instructions before aggressive launches or high-load operation.
